Reviving the Legacy of Unity and Knowledge
Inspired by Adi Shankaracharya’s Path to Unite India’s Spirit
Shri Adi Shankaracharya embarked on an incredible journey by foot, connecting India’s sacred sites, including the 12 jyotirlingas, 18 shakti-peethas, and four Vishnu-dhaams. His pilgrimage routes united India as a single land. He traversed from Kerala to Kashmir, Puri to Dwarka, Sringeri in present-day Karnataka to Badrinath, Kanchi in present-day Tamil Nadu to Kashi (Banaras), along the Himalayan slopes, the banks of the Narmada and Ganga rivers, and the eastern and western coasts.
Inspired by this, I am planning to chain-walk the Jyotirlinga Temples. My goal is to shine a spotlight on India’s rich heritage and culture, with the hopes of garnering support for studying India’s contributions to global knowledge and scholarship within major universities.
Even in this age of video conferencing and smartphones, there’s no substitute for in-person communication. During my journey, I engage with students in schools and colleges, motivating them to participate in the Rotary literacy promotion project, “Each One, Teach One” in India.
Moreover, I aim to inspire my fellow citizens to join in achieving these objectives. They can be very effective by helping to scale the effort. They can organize walks with people in their towns/cities under the Jyotirling Padyatra banner to temples or other significant locations, thus making it a nationwide movement.
